Joomla is an open-source powerful CMS (content management system) which is widely used for publishing websites. Joomla sites are hosted on Linux based servers. It is a very user-friendly content management system and possesses many additional functionalities that make a developer’s goal very easy to achieve. We are going to discuss Joomla admin password reset. Please follow the steps below.

There are several ways to reset the admin password for content management systems. You have to follow this article if you do not have access to your admin panel and cannot reset your password through traditional mail method.

Joomla Admin Password Reset

1) You might be using any one of the famous or user-friendly control panels such as Plesk, cPanel, and Webuzo to run your web hosting account. Please login into the control panel and then login into phpMyAdmin. PhpMyAdmin is software which is mainly implemented to perform database administration over the web using Graphical User Interface.

2) Select your Joomla database.

3)  You will see a list of the tables in your database. Here my table prefix is “bak_” and yours would be different. Select the table containing “users” after the table prefix. In my case, it is “bak_users”.

4) Find the Admin account in which you wanted to reset the password and click on “Edit” link with a pencil symbol as you can see in the image given below.

5) Here we are going to reset the password, select the password field with “MD5” encryption and then enter the desired password in the Value field. For example “Password123” under the “Values” field. Please refer the following screenshot for same. Once you have selected the MD5 encryption and entered the desired password, click on the “Go” button.

6) You have successfully updated the admin user’s credentials and now you can log in as admin with your new Password.

You can use this method if you have no way to access your admin panel or your website. If you can access your website, the recommended method would be to use the password reset link via E-mail.
